Here’s a round-up of online document translation tools that will help you translate text files and Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) from one language to another for free.

Translate within Microsoft Office

If you have a copy a Microsoft Office installed on your machine, you can download the free Office Translation utility from Microsoft and translate Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint Presentations, Outlook emails, etc. from within the corresponding Office program itself. You can translate individual words, sentences or even the whole document using Microsoft Translator through the Research task pane.

Online Document Translation

If you don’t have Microsoft Office, you can use an online translation service (e.g., Google Translate) to convert foreign language documents into your own language. Here’s how: Step 1: Upload the Word document to your website or, if you don’t have a site yet, you may upload the document to Zoho Viewer.

Step 2: Go to Google Translate and type the URL of your web document (provided by Zoho) into the translation search box. Select the from-and-to language pairs and within seconds, the translated version would become available in your browser. An advantage with Google Translate is that the service now supports certain Indian languages as well including Hindi.
