You can safely leave that heavy laptop at home as your BlackBerry is almost a perfect device for catching up with business documents and ebooks on the go.

There are a bunch of BlackBerry ebook readers available today but my favorite is Mobipocket from Amazon – the software is absolutely free and supports almost every popular document format include Microsoft Office documents (Word, PowerPoint Presentations, Excel Spreadsheets), HTML web pages and even PDF files.

It works like this. You first install the Mobipocket ebook reader software on your Windows PC and then import a bunch of documents that you want to read on your BlackBerry – the software also supports Windows Mobile and Symbian phones like the Nokia or Sony Ericsson.

The next step is to install the Mobipocket app on your mobile device. You can either visit the mobipocket site from the browser of your mobile phone and download the app “over the air” or just connect your Blackberry to the computer through USB and run the Mobipocket desktop reader.

Once the installation is done, all documents in your reading list will be imported from the desktop into your BlackBerry as soon as you connect the phone to the computer. Alternatively, you can connect to the Mobipocket website and download eBooks for reading directly on your BlackBerry.

Inside the BlackBerry, Mobipocket provides a very customizable reading interface. You can choose different fonts; alter page margins, etc. for more comfortable reading.

Mobipocket supports annotations so you can highlight bits of text while reading on the BlackBerry (it’s similar to marking paper documents with a yellow highlighter). You may also attach notes to the document and, when synchronized with the PC, these bookmarks and notes get saved on the computer as well.
