Suneet Tuli, CEO of Datawind, the company that developed the low-cost Akash tablet, told WSJ:
The media in India was reporting last month this supposedly feel-good story that the country now has 100 million active Internet users. But if you read more closely, you realized that they were defining ‘active’ as using the net once a month.
If you were counting only people who accessed the Internet at least once every other day, the number drops to 48 million. That’s 4 percent of the Indian population. On the other hand, India now has over 900 million mobile phone subscriptions.
I feel myself enjoyful while opening the site because i found the soltions of various problems
I am surprised to see how come companies like Datawind pass such ignominious data. The Internet users in India stands 121 million and then it could be further bifurcated into various types – “active”, daily logs etc etc.
The link http://www.dazeinfo.com/2011/11/08/indian-internet-users-2011/ claims that internet users in india is just 1% of overall population and year 201 was the mobile device year in India. Then why only One local company – not truly local – is rocking the market with low cost. That too is just keep getting postponed.
Now I seriously doubt about DataWind capacity, capability and commitment as they are producing mislead information and keep failing with their statements.
This stats would even increase if BSNL would have given better service! Lots of them are opting out form it since the service is very bad! But honestly the plans are the best, only service what gives the bad customer experience, while compared to Airtel & Tata !!
It is important to spread the word about internet among indians. The vision of india being a developed country by 2020 would just be another dream if steps are not initiated to give computer education among Indians in Rural areas. presently, the stats look really dull.
